How Divinehope calculates
What the numbers on this site rest on, how they were checked, and where honest sources differ.
The sky
Positions of the Sun, Moon and planets come from the Astronomy Engine library, which follows the VSOP87 planetary theory and modern lunar theory, computed on your own device. Rahu is the mean lunar node, as in most Indian almanacs, and Ketu is exactly opposite.
The zodiac is the Nirayana (sidereal) zodiac with the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsha, the standard adopted by the Government of India’s Calendar Reform Committee. KP charts use the Krishnamurti ayanamsha and Placidus house cusps, as that system requires.
Your place of birth is turned into latitude, longitude and the time zone in force on that date, using the international time zone database, which includes India’s war-time clock change of 1942 to 1945 and daylight saving abroad.
How it was checked
Every figure was compared with the Swiss Ephemeris, the reference used by professional astrology software, for 300 random birth moments between 1930 and 2035 at places across India, 150 Panchang dates, 96 sunrises and 60 dasha sequences:
| Planets (sidereal longitude) | within 2 to 15 arcseconds; a Nakshatra pada is 12,000 arcseconds wide |
| Lagna (ascendant) | within 0.1 arcsecond |
| Tithi and Nakshatra at sunrise | no mismatches in the sample |
| Sunrise and sunset | within 7 seconds (upper limb, with standard refraction) |
| Krishnamurti ayanamsha | exact |
| Vimshottari Dasha dates | to the day, using the 365.25 day year |
Festival dates in the calendar were checked against several published Panchangs for 2026 and 2027.
The rules
Interpretation follows the classical texts: Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra for houses, lordship, Shadbala, Ashtakavarga and the Vimshottari Dasha; Phaladeepika and Saravali for yogas; Muhurta Chintamani for muhurta and the Ashtakoota of Milan; Jaimini’s Upadesha Sutras for Chara karakas; and the Ratna texts of the Garuda Purana and later manuals for gems. Where a reading depends on judgement rather than arithmetic, the reason is shown beside it.
Where sources differ
- Festivals. A festival is placed by the tithi prevailing at the time of day its rite needs (sunrise, midday, Pradosh, midnight or moonrise). When a tithi spans two such times, published Panchangs sometimes choose differently, and dates also change with your city. Choose your city in the Panchang for local dates.
- Milan. A few Nakshatra pairs score differently for Gana and Yoni in different traditions. We follow the common North Indian table and show the reason for every score.
- Birth time. A chart can be no more precise than the time it is cast for. The Kundli shows how many minutes of error would change the Lagna, the Navamsha or the Moon’s pada, and offers rectification when the margin is small.
- Mean or true node. We use the mean node; some software uses the true node, which can differ by up to about 1.7°.
Remedies
No remedy on this site requires you to pay anyone, buy anything from us or book a ritual: mantra, charity and observance are free, and a gem is suggested only when the chart clearly calls for one. Remedies are offered as traditional support, never as a guarantee and never as a replacement for medical, legal or financial advice.
